2019 Domaine du Grand Tinel Châteauneuf-du-Pape, France, Rhone, Wine Review

This is consistently a great value in CdP and the 2019 is no exception. A blend of 80% Grenache, 17% Syrah and 3% Mourvedre, this is a refreshing and food wine. Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has raspberries and cherries with a slight earthiness. Medium bodied. Light tannins. On the palate, there is some depth here. Bright red fruit flavors. Good acidity. Nice finish. This is nice on its own and better with food. A great choice for Pizza night. Drink over the next five years.

This is a luxury cuvee for this wine who make a few different CdP's. It is a blend of 40% Grenache, 40% Syrah, and 20% Mourvedre. Purple in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has raspberries, black cherries, garrigue, pepper and black olives. Full Bodied. On the palate, this is drinking well now. Very concentrated notes of black cherries and black raspberries with underlying pepper and smoke. This has a long finish. It will improve over the next five to seven years but either way will drink well for the next twelve to fifteen years. Great on its own, but better with grilled

This producer used to be known as Font de Michelle but has re-branded using this name. It is a very traditional CdP with about 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah and 10% Mourvedre according to the back label. Purple in color. The nose has black cherry and spice and a bit of a liqueur note. Very nice chewy mouth feel. Black cherries, a bit floral and cherries along with some alcohol on the palate. Long finish. This should pair well with stews, charcuterie and roasts. Both 2015 and 2016 are great vintages in CdP. This one easily has a decade or more left to enjoy.

This is in a great place right now (as seem to be many of the top 2005 CdP's). Garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, slight black raspberries, char, black pepper, nutmeg and black pepper. With air some dried flowers and roasted meats. Full bodied. Complex and layered. This is a big, "masculine" styled type of CdP. On the palate, black cherries, with layers of forest floor, spice and earth. Lively acidity. Good balance. Long finish. This bottle is at peak but should have another five to seven years at this level. Great on its own, it will be even

This house and this wine don't seem to get the attention that they deserve despite the critics loving them. It is a blend of 45% Grenache, 45% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is big with black raspberries, black cherries, slight plums, spices, floral notes and roasted meats. Full bodied. Light tannins. Great energy. On the palate, this is delicious. Complex. Layers of black raspberries, plums and black cherries with some char and spice. Long finish. A classically styled CdP, the word "rustic" no doubt comes to mind. It is a blend of 65% Grenache, 15% Mourvèdre, 15% Syrah, and 5% (Cinsault, Clairette, and others). Ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cherries, funk and garrigue. Full bodied. On the palate slightly silky texture. Medium tannins. Cherries and black cherries with some earthiness. Black licorice on the finish. Drink over the next ten to fifteen years. Great on its own, this will work nicely with braised beef.
