“Great wines reflect the relationship between a vineyard and the people who are its stewards,” says Peter Heitz, winemaker at Turnbull. “We have been farming our vineyards for decades, so, when we make our wines, we do so with integrity and respect.” That philosophy is clearly evidenced in this bottle. Comprised of cabernet sauvignon with the addition of 2% petite verdot the wine is then aged exclusively in French oak for nearly two years. This is at once robust and powerful, at least initially, but after some air time, a lithe quality appears and the favors of black cherry, plum, blackberry, light blueberry and boysenberry are evident. Supported by back notes of cedar and mocha, there is an inherent richness to this cabernet, a maturity of fruit and tannic structure, while drinking like an wine that has been aged for a decade or more.
