NV Guyot-Choppin Champagne Brut, France, Wine Review

Not a wine I remember having before. it is quite good if the price is right. A blend of 60/40 Pinot Meunier and Pinot Noir. Golden in color, clear and bright with a nice mousse. The nose is serious with green apples, brioche and slight match stick. Medium bodied. Good acidity. On the palate, this is crisp and tasty with apples, minerality and slight char. Good finish. This is great on its own and should be very versatile with food. Try to make sure bottles are recent releases and drink over the next few years.

This ubiquitous Champagne seems to be everywhere and sometimes, that means it can be easy to look past it (for wine geeks anyway). It is quite good. This is actually a special bottling to celebrate their 150th anniversary of their founding in 1869. It is a blend of equal parts Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier (30% to 40%) and the rest Chardonnay. This is a blend of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Pinot Meunier. Light golden in color with just a touch of copper hues. Nice mousse with plenty of tiny bubbles. The nose is very nice with ginger, toast and minerality. Full bodied. Crisp acidity. On the palate, lemons, char, and slight pears. Long, vibrant finish. This is nice on its own but with all that acidity, it begs for food. It would work with just about any foods. It worked nicely with soft cheeses. drink over three to five years from release date.

This is a blend of 40% Pinot noir, 40% Chardonnay, and 20% Pinot Meunier. This is drinking very nicely. Light golden in color. The nose has red apples, brioche and slight toast. On the palate, this is easy, crisp and very enjoyable. The apples come thru with an underlying minerality. Good acidity. Nice finish. This should be consumed in the next few years. It is quite food friendly and will go with almost any food.

This is a blend of 32% Pinot Noir, 32% Chardonnay, 32% Meunier, and 4% Petit Meslier, Arbanne, and pinot Blanc according to the label. Of course, Zero Brut nature is an indication that this is the driest level of Champagne and has no added sugar prior to bottling. Light golden in color with a frothy mousse of tiny bubbles. Clear and bright. The nose is great with spice, ginger, slight golden delicious apples and a hint of lemon peel. Great acidity. Dry. On the palate, lemon peel with minerality and a touch of toast. Long finish. Very impressive.
