Some of the best bottles are not expensive but consumed in a great place or environment or just have a great story. This is one. The bottle had been given to me a few days earlier when visiting Bruno Rocco winery by our guide Marta. https://www.intowine.com/visit-bruno-rocca-barbaresco-italy We were travellin thru Italy with friends and they had gone to dinner. Having had a late lunch, my wife and I were too full for that so we stayed in our hotel in Lake Garda and watched the sun set across the lake. But, there is always room for wine, so we popped the cork and just sat and watched until the sun had set.
This is 100% Nebbiolo that spends 8 months in oak. Ruby in color, bright and partially opaque. The nose is nice with cherries, sandalwood, slight sage and a hint of rose. Medium to full bodied. Medium tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, this drinks easy but has some depth as well. Obviously young, this needs some food to really shine. it would be great with Pizza or a plate of Pasta in a Tomato based sauce. It should easily go another seven to ten years in a good cellar. Great value.
