2020 Fingers Crossed Head Held High White, USA, California, Wine Review

This is a blend of 80% Chardonnay, 12% Roussanne, and 8% Marsanne mostly from the Bien Nacido vineyard in Santa Barbara, California. Light golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is great with peach, slight char, lemons and spice. Full boded. Good balance. Slightly oily texture. On the palate, this is delicious. Crisp but not tart. Flavors of peach, slight grapefruit, hint of vanilla and spice, and slight char. Long finish. This is young but complex and deep. This is great on its own and will work with foods that can mesh with a big white. Salmon would work well but so would Indian Eggplant dishes. Drink over the next ten to fifteen years.

This is my first time trying this producer. It is a blend of 72% Roussanne, 24% Chardonnay, and 4% Viognier. Opened and allowed to breathe for an hour prior to consuming. Delicious. Golden in color, clear and bright. The nose shows some toasty oak, roasted almonds, Lemon flan, and slight wax/vanilla. Yet, for all those oak notes on the nose, it takes a back seat on the palate which has lemons, waxy lemons, and slight ginger notes. It is a big wine, but not a fruit bomb, more of a presence. Best Napa Chardonnay (For the Money)

IntoWine.com asked a panel of wine experts for their recommendation for the best Napa Chardonnay (for the money): California Chardonnay has entered a new golden era, and there are terrific, cooler climate examples available from all over the State. These great new Chards tend to be balanced, with minerality and strong acidity, as well as less obtrusive new oak than was the trademark of California Chardonnay even five years ago. Napa does not have a particularly cool climate, so the wines from this region tend to have more ripe, tropical fruit characteristics, and more richness, as well as more of a creamy mouth feel, thanks in large part to the new oak typically used for fermentation and aging. Nonetheless, for those who like the rich, tropical fruit style of Chardonnay, there are some great examples from Napa that are relative values. My top pick for the money is the Arnot-Roberts Watson Ranch Napa Valley Chardonnay, with the current release going for a relatively reasonable average of $35. Here I get more lemon and lemon cream than super-ripe tropical fruit, but with solid weight and creamy texture. This is a 60/40 blend of Chardonnay and Roussanne from California. Golden in color, clear and bright. The nose is lovely with lemon rind, shite flowers, slight almond notes and chalk. Full bodied. Light to medium tannins. On the palate, this is big and round but enough acidity to work well. Still young, this should continue to mature and get better but is already drinking well. Drink over the next ten to fifteen years. Maybe better on its own right now as this is a big wine, but it would work with shrimp and pasta for example.
