It has been a few years since tasting such a young Clos des Papes but it doesn't seem like much has changed. This is certainly one of the top Chateauneuf's on the market. It is a blend of 55% Grenache, 35% Mourvedre and 10% Syrah (and other permitted varietals). Garnet in color, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is deep with black cherries, anise, spices (Garrigue), and roasted herbs. Full bodied. Medium tannins. On the palate, this is delicious. Great texture. Flavors of black cherries and black licorice with spice and char. Long finish. This should develop over the next ten to fifteen years and drink well for another fifteen years after that. No harm in drinking some young as well. Delicious on its own this will need bigger food for the moment. It worked very well with Pizza but would be delicious with Roasted meats or Root Vegetables.
