2019 Bonterra Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc, USA, California, Wine Review

This was tasted from a 1.5 liter box. While boxed wines tend not to be the most expensive wines, the box is actually a wonderful method for enjoying wines. It keeps the oxygen out and the wines in excellent condition. Silvery green/gold in color, clear and bright. The nose has peaches, limes and minerals. On the palate, this is crisp and clean. Limes and melon with a slight minty note and underlying minerals. Sort finish. This is drinking well on opening. In the box format, one could leave this in the fridge and have a glass or two a day for a couple three weeks with no degradation in quality. This drinks great on its own and will work with lighter salads and foods.

This is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc (44%), Chardonnay (41%), Malvasia (10%), and Pinot Gris(5%). The name comes from a proprietary clone of Sauvignon Blanc that Flora Springs utilizes in the Crossroads vineyard. It is an interesting white that really needs some air when opening. Silvery/green in color with pale yellow/gold. On opening the oak is dominant and that did not work well. Of course, this is just being released and that will cure itself. Made with Estate grown fruit. Light green/gold in color, clear and bright. The nose is nice with limes, green apples and a touch of lemon. Medium bodied. Nicely balanced. Refreshing. On the palate, limes are the forefront with a touch of lemons on the finish. This is easy drinking but has some substance. It drinks well on its own and will work well with lighter foods. A nice summer lunch wine. Drink over the next couple of years although it is a bit past prime already.

Robert Mondavi long ago started calling his Sauvignon Blanc as Fume Blanc, but it is the same wine. This is always a quality Sauvignon Blanc for a fair price. This is actually 87% Sauvignon Blanc and 13% Semillon. Pale golden in color with some green and copper hues to it. Clear and bright. The nose is pretty with oranges, limes, minerals and with air, a bit of dust and mint.
