Disgorged November 2022. This is 100% Chardonnay according to the back label. Special Club Champagne is a designation for the highest-quality cuvées produced by member growers of the Club Trésors de Champagne. Each winemaker must make their champagnes entirely on their own premises and the champagne must be made exclusively from grapes harvested from their own vineyards. A Special Club champagne may only be made in outstanding vintage years and 4 years aging minimum is required. There is a note on this site for the same wine disgorged in May 2023 so it is interesting to compare. https://www.intowine.com/reviews/2018-roland-champion-champagne-grand-cru-special-club-france-wine-review Light golden in color, clear and bright with a nice mousse of very small bubbles. The nose is excellent with toast, green apples, and Vernor's Soda®. Medium bodied. Excellent acidity. Great energy and balance. On the palate, the green apples come thru along with some char/toast, ginger and minerality/chalk. It drinks well on its own and is very food friendly. It worked great with Deviled Eggs (with horseradish). Drink over the next ten years. Although obviously similar, this seemed crisper and a touch better than the prior wine. Or, maybe it was the company and the setting (good friends on Xmas Eve).
