This is from Halcon Vineyard and is my favorite vintage of Unmasked. We were really starting to dial in on what we wanted from Paul Gordon from his Halcon Vineyard. We were willing to risk rain (which didn't happen) in return for higher sugar levels at harvest and it worked out well for us. Of course, that is all in the context of a cooler climate, less ripe Syrah. This is purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose is great with black cherries, black raspberries, black pepper, char, roasted herbs and slight floral notes. Medium to full bodied. Great acidity. On the palate, this is delicious. Flavors of black raspberries, black cherries, black pepper, spice and char. Long finish. This is great on its own but better with food. It would work well with roasted meats or roasted squash. It is drinking well and probably at or close to peak but should have another ten to fifteen years left even at age 10.
