Purple/ruby in color. The nose is dusty with cherries. Soft texture. On the palate, black cherries with some spice. Soft texture. It is drinking well now with some depth. This is a more Bordeaux-esque style of Zin. For those who are looking for something more refined and not jammy, this fits the bill. Works with a wide variety of foods. Probably should be consumed in the next six years.
This is 100% Zinfandel from a vineyard first planted in 1893! The vineyard is above the fog line and planted on volcanic and red clay soils. 15% Alcohol but not noticeable. Beautiful color; a sort of magenta and ruby, clear and bright. The nose is great. Earthy and deep with black raspberries, black cherries, a bit of cinnamon and spice. On the palate this is sweet black cherry fruit. Some might call this jammy, but to me that implies a lack of precision which this wine has. Earth and deep. This is a nice Zin that takes its foot off the gas just a bit in this vintage. Purple in color with some ruby swirls. The nose has raspberries, slight bramble and spice. Medium bodied. 14.8% ABV. On the palate, raspberries with some underlying char and a bit of black pepper. Nice finish. This is the type of Zin that should age pretty well. Drink over the next ten to twelve years. This is probably better with food; pizza or a burger are nice choices.
This is one of the classic vineyards in California. A whole host of wineries use this to make some very fine Zinfandels. Carlisle's version tends to be middle of the road.
