It was nice to be able to try a Roy Piper wine with some age on it. The only other time I was able to try one was just after release and while impressed, it needed time. This time, the bottle was mature and signing and despite being from a "lesser" vintage, the wine showed impressively. Purple in color with some ruby hues, opaque and bright. The nose has cassis, black cherries, "purple floral" notes, slight graphite and char. Medium to full bodied. Medium tannins. Nice balance. On the palate, this is complex with good fruit. Flavors of cassis, black cherries, spices and char. Ever so slight mint on the finish. This seems to be full mature and at peak but should be at this level for another ten to fifteen years. It is not boisterous but really holds it own. it is great on its own and will work well with lots of food. It went very well with a variety of vegetarian Pizzas.
