This is a blend of 60% Syrah, 20% Mourvèdre, 12% Petite Sirah, and 8% Grenache from various vineyards on the west side of Paso Robles.  This was a huge wine in its youth and now, at age 16, while still a big wine, it shows some signs of coming together more.  Saxum wines have always concealed their high alcohol very well and this one is no different.  The label lists 15.6% abv but there is no noticeable alcohol on the nose of palate.  Inky purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose is complex with black raspberries, grilled meats, roasted herbs, spice and slight bacon fat.  Full bodied.  Medium tannins.  Great plush texture.  On the  palate, this is complex and also delicious.  Flavors of black raspberries layered with char, earthiness, slight blueberries, and spice.  Long finish.  The wine is light on its feet and almost seamless.  This is delicious on its own and will work well with bigger (not seafood) foods.  A nice choice for Brisket.  Drink over the next ten to fifteen years.
