2005 Ridge Lytton Springs, USA, California, Sonoma, Dry Creek valley, Wine Review

Ridge makes so many great bottlings, but this has always been a personal favorite. It is a blend of 77% Zinfandel, 17% Petite Sirah, and 6% Carignane in this vintage. This is fully mature at this point and drinking beautifully at age 20. Purple in color with some ruby hues, mostly opaque and bright. The nose is nice with raspberries, char, vanilla, bramble and spice. Medium bodied. Light tannins. Great balance. On the palate, this is tasty with a nice complexity. Layers of raspberries, black raspberries, char and spice. Nice finish. This is great on its own and will work well with many foods. A nice choice with Pork or Chicken. Drink over the next five years.

Top Ten California Zinfandels - 2016

I tend to taste and drink a lot of wine over the course of a year. I am in a few tasting groups, sometimes the wines are consumed at various local wine store tastings and a number drunk with friends and family.

This has 80% Zinfandel, 16% Petite Sirah, and 4% Carignane. It is drinking just wonderfully right now. Purple in color. The nose has black raspberries, dust, leather, slight earthiness and cherries. On the palate, this is fresh with vibrant fruit and light tannins. Black raspberries, slight peppery notes and a nice warm earthiness to it. Good balance. Nice finish. Just a lovely wine. It won't get better but should continue to mature and evolve over the next decade. Will work with almost any food at this point.
