Sadly, this wine was just about DOA. The cork was good. The wine was pale ruby and watery looking. The wine was oxidized. Oh well, I had hoped for better but that was a lot to ask.

This bottle retailed for around $25 on release. At age 14 years from vintage, it is drinking quite well. It is certainly at peak (or just past) and won't get better from here, but what a nice experience. Ruby/purple in color. The nose has cherries, dried cherries, black cherries, dried tea leaves, slight spice and some dried leather. On the palate, this has vibrant cherries fruit along with some dried cherries and forest floor notes. No tannins left. Some layering. Moderate complexity. Nice acidity. Works well with pasta, pizza and medium bodied foods. Drink up in the next few ye
2014 was a very difficult vintage in Tuscany. Still, this is a nice wine if not at the level of better vintages. Ruby in color. The nose has cherries, slight dry tea and slight mushrooms. On the palate, the cherries come thru if a bit diluted. So do the mushrooms. Not as much acidity as other vintage. Still, it will work well with pizza or Italian dishes. Not a bad choice off the menu at a local Italian eatery.
A definite step up from the 2014 and back up to their usual standards. This is usually an easy choice for a go to value in Chianti and wine in general. Deep ruby in color. The nose has cherries, slight anise, slight forest floor. On the palate, this is medium bodied. Very smooth texture. Nice juicy cherry fruit with some underlying damp earth. Nice acidity. Well rounded. Nice finish. This is drinking well now and will continue for at least a decade, probably more. A great match with pizza or pasta for sure.
This is a great value in Chianti and in fact red wine in general. Garnet in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose is nice with black cherries, cherries, spices, hay, slight mocha and mint. Medium bodied. Medium tannins. Good acidity. On the palate, flavors of cherries, earth and forest floor. An interesting menthol note on the long finish. This is made for food. A great choice to pasta with a tomato based sauce. Or a mid-week pizza. Drink over the next five to eight years.
Like Chianti, Vino Nobile wines are mostly Sangiovese grapes and from Tuscany. The best of them compare with many of the good Chianti's and the price is often less. Frescobaldi (a famous Chianti producer) expanded into this area by buying this property in 2021. This wine was made prior to that but recently released by Frescobaldi. It is a blend of 90% Sangiovese, known locally as Prugnolo Gentile, and 10% other red grape varieties. Deep ruby in color, mostly clear and bright. The nose has cherries, black cherries, sandalwood, spice and slight sour cherries. Medium bodied. Medium tan
