This was a treat to try and is also my birth year.  This is made by first starting with a Solera of vintage "Port" that is over one hundred years old (about fifty years old at the time this was made).  They then added a Solera of various vintages of Zinfandel and finally a bit of what they call a "mother" which is some type of spirit/Brandy.  The result is very interesting.  Light brown/tawny in color, clear and bright.  The nose has toffee, caramel, a bit of cardamom, and dried peach.  Medium bodied.  Good acidity.  On the palate, there is some alcohol showing but also some caramel and toffee.  Nice finish.  This is alive and vibrant and very interesting.  It drinks more like an aged Tawny Port than a Madeira but is still very pleasurable.  It would work well with a nutty dessert.
