Pinot Noir Pommard Clone. Russian River Valley, Sonoma

A moody Pinot Noir, this offers deeper expressive fruit, easy drinkability and makes for a solid food companion (I had this with pesto pasta but the suggestions are quite extensive – game, duck, salmon, hearty vegetarian, etc.). This presents black cherry, blackberry, plum, and light rhubarb with back notes of dried tealeaf, wildflowers, cola and sandalwood. The specific use of Pommard clones gives this some darker fruit elements. Derived from three different vineyard sites, then blended together, the result is a classic brooding Pinot Noir with enough acidity and tannic structure to stand up to a variety of foods, while still being a Pinot you can enjoy on its own. It shy’s away from the bright effusive fruity Pinot and prefers richer elements, which ultimately are more compelling and interesting. The wine benefits from a brief year-long oak aging, which helps support the wine, but which also allows the soft, supple and lovely fruit to shine forth. Drink this now through 2030. 583 cases.
