2022 Stemmari Grillo Sicilia, Italy, Sicily, Wine Review

Grillo is a grape that we are seeing more often. It makes excellent white wines and for the most part, the price is reasonable. Pale yellow gold in color with tinges of green, clear and bright. The nose is nice with a bit of lemon/lime citrus and some tropical fruit (Mango?) notes and just a bit of minerality. Light to medium bodied. Refreshing acidity. On the palate, the lemon/lime and mango comes thru with just a touch of spice and earth. Good finish. This is an easy to drink white that will stand up nice to food. It would be nice with seafood but also with a plate of cold pasta salad. Drink over the next three to five years. This is an incredible value.

While common in Italy, and a grape native to the island of Sicily, you don’t find much Grillo is other parts of the world. And that’s okay as Italy does an admirable job with the grape. It offers good minerality, nice acidity and flavors of subtle lemon-lime, white peach, kumquat, apricot, resin and honeysuckle, light mango and other tropical fruit notes. In terms of food pairing, this is the kind of wine that is ultimately versatile, and Stemmari offers a terrific value. ORIGIN: Sicily, Italy. ALCOHOL: 13%

Made from the Grillo grape (fast becoming one of my favorite white grapes) in Sicily. Silvery with slight golden hues, clear and bright. On opening there was a bit of a chemical note, but that blew off in 15 minutes and it was clean after that. Tropical fruits (guava?) with vanilla and very slight smoke. Light to medium bodied. On the palate, this has tart acidity. 13% abv. A very nice juicy texture. On the palate, flavors of blood oranges with some vanilla. Guava notes come out on the finish. This is delicious on its own and will work well with sea food or vegetarian dishes. Dri

This is a white wine made in Sicily from Certified Organic Grillo (pronounced GREE-lo) grapes at a Co-Op. 12.5% ABV. Golden in color with a very slight copper hue, clear and bright. The nose is nice, minerals, quince, and a very slight minty note. Slightly viscous with a medium body. On the palate, the minerality comes thru along with lemons, and quince. There is a slightly bitter note (lemon pith?) on the finish. The finish is of moderate length. Overall, this is a very refreshing wine that was quite a hit with a few friends I shared the remains of the bottle with. It got better

This is 100% Grillo from Sicily grown at an altitude of 830 meters (2,700 feet). A beautiful wine. Golden in color with a slight copper hue, clear and bright. The nose has acacia flowers, tangerines and sea air. Medium bodied. Very slight oily texture. On the palate, this is more about minerality with a bit of tangerine and slight smoke. Good acidity. Plenty of depth. Long finish. This drinks great on its own and is better with food. It will work with salads, sea food and lighter poultry or pork dishes. Drink over the next five to seven years.

An excellent white from Sicily made from the Grillo grape. Pale yellow\gold in color, clear and bright. The nose is great with citrus, minerality and peach. Great acidity. Medium bodied. On the palate, this is tasty and bold. Citrus notes with nice minerality. Persistent finish. This work better with food. Sea food is a natural. Drink over the next five years.
