One of  the best Grenache wines made in the USA but it does have a very different profile.  Served blind to a group of experienced tasters, no one guessed Grenache although there were some Syrah guesses. It is a blend of 77.5% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 8.3% Syrah, 3.3% Petite Sirah and 0.9% Viognier.   Inky purple in color, opaque and bright.  The nose has Kirsch, black pepper, chocolate, slight leather, and spice.   Full bodied.  Medium tannins.  great energy and balance.  On the palate, there is noticeable alcohol.  Also flavors of black cherries, black raspberries, chocolate and charred earth.  Long finish.  This needs some time.  Typically, I think these wines need ten years to really come around.  That said, for those who dislike this style young, they probably won't like it with age, either.  I love these wines.  Great on its own, this  will need big food but it can stand up nicely to spicy Indian food.  Drink over the next ten to fifteen years.
