2005 Maybach Materium Cabernet Sauvignon
Opened in the afternoon. This was a monster approaching a nice young port. I decanted for 8 hours. It is was still huge but much more calmed down. Inky purple, opaque and bright. The nose has black cherries, cassis, cocoa, coffee and leather. Full bodied. On the palate, there is a ton of fruit here. The oak, present before decanting, is somewhat integrated and not obtrusive. It shows itself more as cocoa and coffee notes than as fresh cut lumber. Cassis, and black cherries dominate. Some complexity of fruits. A finish that goes on forever. I would not open another one for 5 years and I think this would be better holding for 10, but I am a believer that this will be stunning. Even better on Day 2!
