2021 Tulip Winery Syrah Reserve, Israel, Wine Review

This is 95% Syrah and 5% Petite Sirah from Israel. Purple in color, opaque and bright. The nose has black raspberries, gravel, roasted meats, and minerality. Full bodied. Light tannins. Good balance. On the palate, this is varietally correct. Black raspberry fruit with gravelly minerality and slight char. Nice finish. This is nice on its own and would be welcome with a brisket at a Passover Seder. Drink over the next five to seven years.

Opened at a holiday party to join in the fun with a "Chanukah" wine as it is made in Israel. Israel is making some excellent wines these days and this is an outstanding Syrah. Deep purple in color with ruby swirls. The nose is very meaty with black raspberries, bacon fat, and black pepper. Medium bodied. On the palate, this is somewhere between a Rhone style Syrah and one from California. It is delicious but slightly restrained fruit. Black raspberries over roasted meat and earth. Good acidity. This is an excellent Syrah. It drinks a lot like a St. Joseph or better Crozes-Hermitage. Purple in color. The nose has black raspberries, slight bacon fat, spice and slight damp earth. On the palate, this is full bodied. Juicy black raspberries that are ripe enough but just barely. Great texture. Medium tannins. Great balance. This will work with medium of heavier foods/spicy foods very well. Drinking well now, it may still improve but should have another decade.
